Shakespeare in Song April 23, 2016

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, universally acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest poets. IFC is delighted to perform an all-Shakespeare program on the actual anniversary day. Over the centuries, the response by composers to Shakespeare’s texts has been enormously varied. To misquote the Bard, “If music be the food of love, sing on!”

The programme showcases a wide range of music with composers from contemporary to the present day including Shakespeare Songs by William Matthias, Songs and Sonnets by George Shearing, and a stunning lament for women’s voices by Ernest Chausson taken from Much Ado About Nothing.
